Brittany / Bretagne is on the west coast of France. It has four departments : Cotes d'Armor, Ile-et-Vilaine, Finistere and Morbihan. The English Channel is to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Famous for its oysters and shellfish as well as its pancakes and cider.
MONT ST MICHEL - on the border of Normandy and Brittany. A village with shops, hotels, chapels, leading up a narrow street and several steps to the abbey which has gothic / roman architecture and a gold statue of St Michel on the spire. CANCALE, ERQUY, BINIC, PAIMPOL, TREGUIER - Coastal route (La Corniche) towards the pink granite coast of Tregastel and Perros Guirec before continuing on to BREST with its huge natural harbour.
QUIMPER - cobbled streets, timber-framed houses and ladies making and selling lace,
CONCARNEAU - fishing port with old walled town,
PONT AVEN - picturesque with restored water-mills and galleries,
just a few places to visit along the Finistere coast.
LORIENT - large town with fishing port (port de plaisance) in Morbihan. Annual International Celtic Festival takes place in August. Compagnie des Indes built its shipyards opposite PORT LOUIS.
QUIBERON - lively port and resort at the end of a narrow strip of land, sea on both sides. Cote Sauvage popular with surfers.
GULF OF MORBIHAN - a stretch of sea between Port Navalo and Locmariaquer. Inlets and ports including medieval town of Vannes, cobbled streets/old port St Goustan at Auray. Megaliths, dolmens, menhirs and tumuli in this area.
CARNAC - Seaside resort famous for its standing stones (Menhirs).
JOSSELIN - Inland near the Nantes-Brest canal and River Oust, has an impressive chateau and is a petite cite de caractere.
